What is everybody's opinions on soundfonts?

I'm asking this as someone who has made soundfonts.

They serve their purpose.

Not everyone uses FL Studio so they don't have the facility of using Slicex or Fruity Slicer which are very functional tools and work very well for using chromatic scales and sound effects in a long or short audio. There are alternatives to these like ReCycle but in the end they are not the same. Speaking of .sf2, in cases like the ones mentioned above they are very useful no matter how much customization the soundfont player has. You can make your shit easily and thats about it. Unlike Slicex, when making a soundfont in Polyphone its more easier to loop a sample, I didn't know how to loop a sample in Slicex CORRECTLY until I researched. Normally in Slicex chromatics, the samples aren't even looped (probably because people now do voices long enough to prevent that and its fine) but on most soundfonts like The Ultimate BF Soundfont the voices are looped unless the vocals are intended to be short. So thats my opinion. i spent 21 minutes writing, I hope its understandable!
